First Band Promo shoot

You guys.... I did my first band photoshoot!! I had so much fun. The guys from Columbia needed some studio shots so we did some last week.

We had a good time and they like the photos :) I'll post more eventually on my deviantart but we're still in the process of editing down.

What do you think? I am personally very impressed hehe. I loved the photos and I can't wait to show some more and put them on my website and portfolio.

In other news, I graduate VanArts in two weeks.... STOKED! I have LOTS of homework and I still have to prepare a physical portfolio and finish my website :/ I have to get to that ASAP but I am a procrastinator when it comes to homework.

Photomanipulations

I did my first photomanipulation/digital art! I worked a hard on this image. Used two stock images that I took and placed them on a photo of my friend Christina. I still need help. I haven't bothered looking at tutorials, I really should. Anyways

I'll be doing more of these. I love photoshop! I can spend all day with it! It's a lot of fun :)

Faber Drive!!!

Ah! This week I went to the Faber Drive video shoot for their new single "Give Him Up". Bah, that song is amazing! I definitely recommend buying their brand spanking new album "Can't Keep A Secret" it's sold online on iTunes, or you can buy it at HMV :) It's really good! so proud of my buds!

Anywho I took 'behind-the-scenes' photos for them instead of actually being in the video. I'll post more photos up whenever the video is released, don't wanna spoil anyones spot light :) But here's a teaser photo >>

Yes! I'll post more photos whenever I get the chance. They'll be up on a gallery on my website. My teacher is showing me how to do a gallery and put it in my template this week; stoked! Yeye!

Welcome Winter!

This week in photography has been hellish but very very very interesting. We photographed five days in a row. BMXers, dancers, ninjas, free runners... crazy mix of people. Haha but it was a lot of fun and I learned lots. My teacher Ian Hylands taught us a lot about lighting action photos and I figured out how I want to photograph bands using these same techniques. Stoked to try it out in the studio :)

So the photo on the right was taken this Friday at some beach near UBC. Haha it was an interesting morning. Had to take the bus to UBC area and then get off at the top of this hill... now it's 8:30 in the morning and I have no idea where I am. Thank my handy-dandy iPhone and Google Maps for helping me find my way!! I had to go down this steep hill. When I say steep, I mean... COMPLETE SLANT LIKE A MOUNTAIN. I wish I was over exaggerating. There was ice on the side walk and ice and converse DO NOT GET ALONG! So I walked on the crusty frost covered grass, yay for being smart. Anyways made it to the location safely. Seriously though I suck at walking on dry concrete. I trip at least three times when I walk anywhere. It's insane. I guess I just don't lift my foot as much, it's usually my right too. Rawr. Anywho, it was very cold and I felt so bad for the dancers who were out there but they toughed it out! Great fun :)

Warped Tour

Alright! I’ve been putting off blogging since last time. Umm What have I done since then?? Well…

I went to warped tour August 14th. It was a lot of fun!! I got to shoot for Alternative Press magazine’s Warped 2009 blog. Here’s the link: http://www.altpress.com/specials/warped09

The show was great. I was really bummed that Hit The Lights was on the smart punk stage. They should’ve been on the Vans stage where the big crowd was. BUT!! They did great! HTL played with Cobra Starship last year [link at the bottom of the page] and that exposure worked great for them!! They gained so many fans from that tour!! I was soooo excited for them. Seriously. The crowd put a smile to my face because this band needs to be recognized for their amazing talents. Anyways I was also bummed that they played at 5:00 the same time as NOFX. But obviously I caught HTL because they’re my favorite of the two. My pictures can be found on the links below.

Ummm let’s see.. What else. I’ve started my ‘study break’. I got a week off of school. I have to go back on Monday :( . I’m really sad about that. Honestly I’m feeling drained of all my creativity. I want to get outta school and start my life. But I am learning a lot about lighting, business and dealing with clients.

I still have a few assignments I have to finish. One of which is due Monday… Lame!

Faber Drive’s new video for “G-Get Up And Dance” is out. I freaking love it. I am in it just a little bit. My friend Esperanza is in it more than me ahaha. Maybe I’m just not noticeable because my clothes weren’t bright enough. But whatever. It was great. I’ll post the link at the bottom as well.

It’s been such a wacked out week. Everything is due now that term is ending and we have a week of ‘study break’ this Friday. I finished the family and editorial shots today actually. The girls; Ligia, Esperanza, Sundy and Debbie came over and we shot some photos ontop of my buildings rooftop. We had a lot of fun pretending we were families hahah. And earlier this week I went back to Abbotsford and shot some things for Ian’s class but I don’t like those shots half as much so I’m gonna do them while we’re on break.

What else… Next Tuesday I’m going to be shooting the baseball team called the Canadian’s. Dno who they are. HAHA! It’s an assignment for photojournalism. Should be interesting. We have stock photos and more photos due. Hehe. Yeah.

On to non-school related photography.

I’m shooting Warped Tour on Friday!!!!!!! YES YES YES!!!! So stoked! The bands I am most excited to see is Hit The Lights, Forever The Sickest Kids, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, NOFX, 3OH!3 and Saosin. So expect photos of each of those bands. I will be photographing and the photos will be up on Alternative Press’ Warped Tour Blog. Google it. I’ll link it once my photos are up there :)

I’m pretty freaking stoked. Except I’ll need to buy/borrow some more CF cards or else I’m gonna have to not shoot in RAW. Whatevs. I need to borrow a lens as well, fudggge. I’m unprepared but I always am and my concert photos tend to turn out great.

FD Videoshoot

So on Monday night, Esperanza and I were one of the extras in Faber Drive’s “G-get up and dance” music video. It was sooooo much fun!! I had a lot of fun seeing/hanging out with the guys again. We got to the parkade at 8:00 PM and hung around til the crew needed the ‘background’ as we are called. Hehehe. I was impressed by the turn out. So many fans dressed up super ‘scene’. Oh yes, we had to dress ‘scene’. What is ‘scene’? Don’t ask me. I still don’t know. In my opinion it’s a colourful emo. Hahaha. So I dressed in dark green pants ‘cuz I knew everyone was gonna have purple ones and I knew that Faber was gonna wear his bright green ones. And I also wore a highlight yellow shirt with some kinda rooster pattern on it. Weird huh? My make up and hair looked sweeet. hehehe.

Ummm anyways. We had a great time dancing until FIVE AM!! yes. It was ridiculous but they guys & the music kept us all energized. hehehe.

I miss them already :( I love hanging out with Faber Drive! Especially since I’m starting to get to know Stricko & JP. I can’t wait to see them live again too! Gonna be FUNNNNN!

So I’m still VERY sore from the Video Shoot. 6-8 hours of dancing is quite tiring and bad for the muscles hehehe. But it’s all worth it :)

AAR CONCERT!

HOLY EFF!!! The All-American Rejects were so amazing last night! It was absolutely thrilling!! I think every time I see them I fall even more in love with them. It was my fourth time seeing them…. And you know what.. I already miss seeing them!! DANG! Hello AAR Concert withdrawl. Not a good feeling haha.

So the day was anything but usual. I woke up probably 3 times in the night, each couldnt fall back to sleep… I gave up once i awoke at 7 AM. I took a shower, got all pretty, went on twitter and tweeted a bunch hehe. I got all my stuff ready and then by 10:15 I was out the door. I got to the venue at 10:30 and I was pretty saddened that there was no one there yet. So I wandered around a bit. I didn’t see anyone from AAR or their crew. So I went back home for an hour.

I went back to the venue at 12:00 and there was 3 groups of people already there. I met a bunch of Blink 182 fans and they were all so nice!!! Ten minutes waiting in line I saw Toad! YES TOAD! I saw him running up the stairs so I went up to him. “Are you Toad” I said. He looks way different in person… the computer screen does him no justice. I introduced myself, “Hey! I’m Ashley Perry.” And he immediately got it. His mouth kind of hung open haha. I’m glad he remembered me. We kinda ‘argued’ how he thought he met me before and I kept telling him “No we never met except for the internet” HAHA. Anyways. The whole time I was talking with him I was shaking, I completely felt the nerves. WHICH IS WEIRD! Because I never feel like that. I normally meet these type of rock band people and we always click! But Toad… we clicked but I was just too nervous. I screamed afterwards, and tweeted and facebooked. I found Toad really easy to talk to, really awesome guy! I definitely went a little teeny after he left.

Uhhh I met Mark Hoppus. He liked my camera. That’s about it.

Well I got front row for the concert!! My seven hours of waiting paid off very well. Except I bruised my uh… hoo hoos. HAHAH Yes. too much information. But jeeze-louise! Everyone was pushing extra hard at this concert. When AAR got on… OMG. I freaked the eff out like I never freaked out before. Tyson was all glittery and that made me laugh. They started with Real World. Fantastic! The new album “When The World Comes Down” sounds soooo great live. I was very bummed when they ended. If it weren’t bad for their health, I’d love for AAR to play forever. I wish their set was an hour and a half instead of Blink’s.

The whole concert I was watching either Toad or Tyson. I’ve got photos of Ty staring at me haha. Poor Toad and Chris were barely visible from where I stood. But! It’s ok. My photos aren’t super good but they’re hot. Hahaha! I’ve never used that word as an adjective like that! HAHA!

Well I waited patiently for Blink 182 to end. The only song I wanted to hear was “I miss you” and lucky Tom’s vocals didn’t eff up that song. WOO! Travis and Mark are freggin amazing btw. Tom’s much better at guitar than he was in the 90s. Really great!

They were good… but I wasn’t interested. I wandered around mostly trying to find Mike C. I ran into some AAR fans who knew I was Ashley Perry while I was up there. Cool eh! I didn’t find Mike C though. He was backstage chillin.

Uhhh…. What next? I met AAR’s guitarist Mike Kennerty and AAR’s tour manager, Kyle, after the show. Freggin’ sweet!!!! They were really cool. Obvs.

I showed Mike & Kyle my tattoo!! Did you know Mike and I have it on the same spot?? I didn’t know that. That’s crazy man! Mike took a picture of it with his iPhone. So cool.

My friend, Marie, in Newfoundland couldn’t make it to the show because she couldn’t get work off the whole week. So I got Mike to make a video msg for her. She flipped out! YAY! Happy! But ya big thanks to Mike and Kyle for making the end of the night perfect and big thanks to Toad for making me the happiest girl alive!

And overall the whole day was awesome! I met a bunch of amazing people that kept me company for those long 7 hours hehe.

FD Photoshoot

Oh snap! I had such an awesome week!! Very busy and extremely fun!

July 1st I was in Tofino camping with my friends; Esperanza, Sundy, Ligia, Vicky, Andres and Atienne. Tofino is freaking beautiful! I got heat stroke though on Thursday. But that didn’t stop me and Esperanza singing Faber Drive’s album “Seven Second Surgery” out loud on Canada Day, screaming out in our drunken voices. Hahaha. Awesome :) I also love going on ferries. They’re hella fun even just sitting there. MMMMM Hashies!! I WANT HASHIES!!!!

I got home on Friday; July 3rd. Rested. Then on July 4th I met up with FD’s Manager, Bonnie, and Krikit. We picked up Matt Barnes, photographer, and we scouted out locations for July 5th’s photoshoot.

After scouting I went to the Green Day concert. I wasn’t stoked. I wasn’t able to sell my tickets. And I really didn’t feel like going any more.

The concert was great! Green Day is obviously a great band to see live, thats how the band has survived. They definitely included the crowd by getting fans to go up on stage and talk, sing, and even play Billy Joe’s freaking guitar!! LUCKY!! BUT.. the crowd sucked. Seriously. Vancouver’s GD fans are just drunk stand-ins. They didn’t do anything. Not even push or mosh!! I mean c’mon! It’s a freaking punk concert. I almost got in a fight with two guys because they were such pansies! But of course, because I’m a girl they didn’t fight me. I mostly stood infront of Mike Dirnt because he’s my bass-god! Hahaha! He got me started to wanting to play bass. But of course I suck at guitar & gave up. Hehehehe.
Anywho! That band is wicked. I’d definitely see them again if the tickets are less than $200.

On Sunday, yesterday, I assisted Matt Barnes with the Faber Drive photoshoot. We started at 9AM and the guys ended up going home around 11:30, right? Hahaha! Good times! Shoot! Such fun.
When we were waiting for the sun set, the guys just hung out at my place. And it was pretty surreal having FD at my apartment. But I liked how they all felt very comfortable in my home. And when they left they didn’t even leave a mess! I was so surprised!! Hahaha! faber drive, a management girl, another assistant and a photographer. So many people in such a little apartment XD.

First tattoo

I got this tattoo on June 1st 2009. It represents the best day of my life: December 7th 2006 - AAR’s Tournado tour hit Vancouver! Heck yes! I met AAR that day, I found my calling that day (to become a professional photographer) and over all that was the best day I’ve ever had.

Back To Me

Alright! So at school we've been learning lots about photography... obviously! Hehe One of my favorite classes is Light Painting. Check out some of my shots on my flickr. I worked with a great model named Natasha. My LP teacher is a little bit wacko! His name is Patrick Kaslo. He's really good at what he does; nuts! But fantastic. Anyways there are other classes that I like but LP is just very interesting and modern.

So I guess here is where I'll post my upcoming events. On May 30th I'll be very busy. I'm taking prom photos for my brother and my friend Dani. I know... double booking.. not good!! But for my bro... theres only so many you can take of a guy wearing a suit. Prom dresses are where its at. Even though i HATED my own prom. ANYWAYS!!!

Not only did I double book myself in Abbotsford I also TRIPLE booked myself that day. Not good. But I'll handle it. That evening I'll be taking photos for Endorphin Junkies. I cannot wait! I met these guys at a Killers concert. It's amazing where you can meet really cool people who love art and photography. So thats whats going on in the portrait world. Next up CONCERT!!

*The All-American Rejects! YES YOU GUYS! My favorite band is touring in Canada!!! Can you believe it?!?! I'm so unbelievably stoked!!! I haven't seen them since 2006. I'll be getting a tattoo to symbolize the happiest day of my life soon too. It'll be just a quickie and I hope I can get it done within the next month. AAR is touring with Blink 182... I like those guys... but... Well lets just say I don't like them as much as I did back when they were good... Well I mean their still good. But by their recent performances *cough Leno cough* Tom didn't sound up to par. So I'm not super stoked to see them but if it means I get to see AAR I am super happy.

So! Great news everyone!
Tyson Ritter's photoshoot with Hugo Boss is finally OVERSIZEDLY printed and released into the malls of Vancouver.. err... just Pacific Center.
I'm going to investigate the rest of the streets and see if his photos are in other Boss stores this weekend.
Let me see... That was pretty much my favorite part of my day. I almost had a heartattack. I LOVED the poster. I want to buy it off the store after they're done with it. SHAWTY BITCHES.

Ok. So anyways!
I started school!!!! Yes! Van Arts. It is a lot of fun. The people there are so nice and I'm glad I'm going into the school with a friend already; Esperenza.
It should be a really interesting year! I cannot wait to go and shoot pictures. We'll even get to shoot nude.. ooh scarrrry. You know me; hella imature.

So what else is new? I moved to Vancouver... Officially. My room is finished and painted! I love it. I've got photos of me and AAR and just AAR in frames by my bed. I love them a lot! It's olive green and you can see my teddy bear and lovely bed sheet. I'm going to get a new lamp... that one doesn't match my room at all. But it's ok for now.

School is only a 15 minute walk from my place so I have to walk there every morning. SUCH WALKING IS DONE IN VANCOUVER. oh my goodness. so much. Every day I walk probably five miles! Or atleast thats how it feels! LoL. I can't wait to bring my bike over here.

Faber Drive & New Moon Auditions

So!! I saw Faber Drive in concert on Saturday with Brittany. It was a lot of fun as usual. A 45 minute set! Dang! Such a great time! Oh and also there was no photo rule '3 songs and your out' ahahha.
I suggest going to a Faber Drive concert, those guys never let me down! I had a lot of fun singing along to their songs. Afterwards me and Britt got to hang out with the guys. So much fun =)

Next...

On Sunday I went to the open casting calls in Vancouver for New Moon. I waited from 9 am to 12:30 with my brother. We were near the door when the guy said 'no more people are allowed in'. You know... I wouldn't be so angry if the whole thing wasn't so bogus.

Here's the story:

So me and my brother got there.. The line up was already around the corner. I looked at the people in front of me. Guess what I saw?
NO NATIVES. Just caucasian people and their parents, and all sorts of asian people. Yup. I met three natives there the rest were all different types of nationalities that were no where near natives.
Yes, I'm Mexican and so is my brother. But we can definitely pull it off as a native, we've actually been told we look like them. Even pure native people thought we were native.
Anyways... So there was this guy who came out to talk to the people in the line up saying "we're only looking for 100% native people. Everyone else will be denied at the door!"
He was lying! He was just trying to thin out the line. Which sort of worked... all the east indians left the line up knowing that they wouldn't get a call back (smart people). When me and my brother were closer to the door we saw that they were not kicking out any one. They actually let all the white-skinned (or non-native looking people) into the casting call wasting the casting persons time (from what I heard there was only one caster there).
The studio is pretty small. After the doors there's a staircase where the line up extended. When I saw the people waiting for the casting call ... there was a large amount of caucasian people, asian people, little kids that were under the age of 12, and their parents. That wasted a lot of space for the tan/russet skinned people who could've gotten call backs.
I saw some boys coming out with call back sheets, and they looked a lot like my brother. So I was really pissed off that the casters couldn't see him. 'Cause my brother is a really good actor (he's been in two school plays and had big parts in them. Also he took a theatre class last semester in university).
Apparently they were just casting one girl (Emily) so I don't think I could've gotten that part. I'm going to get my brother an agent, so he can try out to be Seth Clearwater (appears once in new moon and probably wont get casted til next year for Eclipse). I want him to play Seth and I can try out for Leah. That'd be pretty sweet huh? I'd even bulk up to play her.
Also I'm going to try and get us into the extras of the movie as well since I'm moving to Vancouver, it'll be easy for me to get there.
So as from my experience and story, you can tell that the casting was a lot of bogus and full of greedy little white skinned people that wasted so many peoples times. Oh well. There's always next year right?

Oh wow! I haven't logged onto here in a while.
Well, so what's new with Ashley Perry?

SCHOOL:

I've applied for post secondary school and I got accepted to Van Arts for a full time program for their digital photography program. I am really excited to return to school!

The photography program is one year, and I barely get time off that is probaby why it's such a short program.

Anyways, I'm really happy that I took this time off of school because now I'm actually enthusiastic about going to school. Which means that my work will be better because I'm so motivated.

I'm excited to move to Vancouver. I'll hopefully be working there as well, and getting some money. I bet after this program I will live in Vancouver for a while longer. I'll be going to more concerts because I'm living in the city, and I hope that doesn't get in the way of my schooling.

TV:

Me and Linley watched seasons 1,3,4,5 of One Tree Hill. Yes we skipped #2 but I shall buy that soon.
I love OTH!! Naley forever.

And I've been really getting nto the art of anime. I recently found an awesome show called "W.I.T.C.H." and it's freggin awesome. Hehehe. Yeah, I know it's for little kids, but I really like it and the way it's drawn.
After I finished the TV series of WITCH, I started watching Sailor Moon. Gosh, I missed this show. I used to watch it over and over again when I was a little kid. I had Sailor Moon everything; posters, toys, tiaras, costumes, movies, tv episodes, everything!!! LOL!

I'm on the series called "Sailor Moon Star" and I've only got 10 more episodes left. Then I'll watch the movies.

Ten Second Epic's new album is now selling as of yesterday. I still have to go out and buy it.
The Red Jumpsuit Appartus's new album will be out on February 3rd. I'm really excited for that.

The All-American Rejects:

The AAR just came out with a new album in December: When The World Comes Down.
I want to give a review but at the moment, I really don't want to. Hehehe. But! Let's just say I love all the songs especially "Damn Girl" and "Another Heart Calls."
AAR really out did themselves! This album is awesome! I reccommend to anyone. I really like how they changed their sound just enough that they wouldn't lose their fans. Don't you have that? When bands choose a completely different sound? It's so disappointing. I'm glad AAR stuck to their instincts and created the perfect album.
I hope they come to BC soon. It's been so long since I last saw them :(

I love writing blogs, I really wish I could do this more often. I've got many tiny blog posts on Nexopia ahaha. Anyways!!

Have you heard the song "Save You" by Simple Plan? Have you seen the music video??

It's pretty much the most inspiring music video I have ever seen.

The first time I saw "Save You" (on PerezHilton.com ftw) I cried. I never cry... But this music video is so... touching. I think what made me tick was seeing Bif Naked on there. She's such a strong woman! And I love her music too.

I love Simple Plan. I do not care what every one thinks of their music or their personalities or whatever reason you have against them. This band is awesome!!

And they're also EXTREMELY amazing live. I've seen them twice and each time it gets better. David Desrosier gave me my first guitar pick haha. Amazing. I'll never forget that moment.

Anyways! Check out the music video. Buy their CD. It's fantastic. "Generation" is my favorite song on the newest album.

Alright. So it's 3 AM and I'm ready to go to bed. Haha. My days are so messed up. Oh well. I work better in the early morning.

Anyways so... I drew this picture of Helena Bonham Carter. And I edited it in Photo Shop. I really like the outcome of it :) Even though I know I screwed up like hella!

I'm a fan of hers and Tim Burton. I love them so much! They're the epitome of a fairy tale love. I'm actually quite jealous of them haha.

But yeah, they're really awesome! And I cannot wait for Tim's Alice in Wonderland!!! That's going to be nifty!

Marianas Trench released their new single a week ago or so. And I just wanted to blog about how awesome it is!

These guys are probably the most energetic band! They are so much fun to see live, just to dance/jump along! So much fun! I miss them! I haven't seen them live since November 4th 2007. I hope they play a show in Vancouver soon!!!!

We are about to shoot the video for Cross my heart SO SPREAD THE WORD TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE! Here is the info we have so far...

The shoot will take place November 22nd in Vancouver BC.

Who's eligible? Anyone, any age, men and women.

What you'll be doing: You will act in a HUGE parade lead through the streets by Josh Ramsay. Umm need I say more?

Where? 1907 Franklin St. Vancouver. (The corner of Franklin St. and Victoria Drive)

All those interested must respond to crossmyheartvideo@gmail.com with the number of people coming.

Call times will be posted at a later date but you can expect a fairly long day, however you will be fed and it will be guaranteed to be a fun time.

The concert was absolutely amazing. I really don't have many words to describe it. Alkaline Trio and Rise Against are two of my favorite bands and their performances left me speechless. It was just that great!!! The bands are truly inspirational through their accomplishments.

I'm so happy that I got to see Alkaline Trio!! Finally!!! I've loved them since the first time I heard their song "This Could Be Love". And it seems, every time Alk3 comes to Vancouver, I have a prior commitment. Last time they came was on May 30th and it just so happens that I had to graduate that day. Well, graduation was a waste of time and I could've picked up my fake-diploma any time I wanted... I regret not going to see Alkaline Trio.

Another photography update:

I'm almost finished my 366 project!! And am I ever happy!!! This project is ridiculous and I hate it so much! But I'm going to finish it!!

I started on my 17th birthday and I'll end it on my 18th! Haha! How awesome?
